How a spreadsheet can be formatted

when you want to format cells in Microsoft Excel, you can do it manually, by selecting fonts, font colour and size, background colours and borders, or you can do the formatting quickly and automatically using styles. If you used styles in other programs, you'll be familiar with the concept: a style a mixture of formatting that you can apply over and over, like paint.

How do COUNTIF(S) and SUMIF(S) function

COUNTIF is a function that will count (as in 1,2,3...) the number of entries within a range if certain criteria are met, and the data within each entry can be text or numbers.

SUMIF is if you need to sum a column or row of numbers, let Excel do the maths for you. Select a cell next to the numbers you want to sum, click Autosum on the Home tab, press Enter, and you are done. When you click Autosum, Excel automatically enters a formula (that uses the SUM function) to sum numbers.

Comments

  1. SUM is what Excel uses when you autosum a column of data.
The SUMIF function is slightly different to this as it will only sum data together if it matches a certain criteria, this is why the function arguments in the SUMIF formula has two ranges and one criteria. The first range is where excel finds the criteria and the sum-range is then the data that is added together. This could be useful for you as a business as you could find out how much is being made from the sale of one partcular product from your order book.
